Sell Your Wine Online: The Ultimate Checklist

A Definitive Checklist of Things To Know About Your Wine Before You Sell It

Whatever your reasons for wanting to sell wine online, we think the more you know about your own wine, the easier the whole process is. So, if you’re thinking, ‘it’s time to sell my wine’, but aren’t quite sure where to start, we hope this handy checklist will help you with those first steps.

Before you think about getting into contact with a merchant, we strongly recommend knowing as much about your wine as possible so you know exactly what service you will require. Some of these are easily answered if you have your wines with you at home in a private cellar, or if you have a smaller collection of wine. If not, your storage provider should be able to provide you with a stock report with all these details upon request.

For each wine, it is a great idea to know the following:

  • Vintage
  • Bottle size (e.g. 75cl)
  • Case format (e.g. case of 6)
  • Case type (wooden case/cardboard case etc)

Once you’ve covered the above, you should be in a great position to find a merchant willing to buy these from you. But, there are a few other things the merchant may wish to know before you’re able to sell your wine online. These are questions your chosen buyer is likely to ask you, so knowing these details ahead of time will lead to a much smoother and simpler sale.

Questions a wine merchant might ask you:

Once you know details of all of the above, you should be all set and ready to find a merchant who will be willing to buy your wine! What’s more, is that you are much less likely to experience bumps in the road throughout your sale if these details are accurate to the best of your knowledge.
